Janis Ian From Me To You - Live in Bremen 2004 (2-CD)

When you think of American female singer/songwriters, artists like Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Melanie or Tracy Chapman inevitably come to mind. But you shouldn't forget Janis Ian either. After all, she is a two-time Grammy award winner, her album “Between The Lines” (1975), her second for Columbia Records, was number one in the US Billboard album charts for weeks, spent a total of 64 weeks uninterrupted in the charts and was awarded platinum.
The singer and guitarist, who was born in New York in 1951, laid the foundations for her unprecedented career back in 1967 with her single “Society's Child”, a highly controversial song about interracial love that was not tolerated by parents and the community. Janis struck a chord with the times, with lyrics based on the themes of the popular girl groups of the time: a girl falls in love, parents and society are against it. Incidentally, “Society's Girl” was covered several times, including by Spooky Tooth, Judy Stone and Foreigner's Lou Gramm. Of course, the song was also on the program when Janis Ian performed in the Radio Bremen broadcasting hall on October 4, 2004. Solo, just the artist, her guitar, her voice and her unique charisma. And a captivating entertainer and storyteller. That's all it takes. When she thinks back to that evening today, there is a little melancholy and a lot of hope in her voice: "Nights like this encourage me to believe that this world could be a peaceful place.
