Ferlin Husky (aka: Tex Terry, Terry Preston and Simon Crum), was a timeless entertainer, actor, musician, comedian, vocalist and storyteller. He was equally adept at the genres of traditional honky-tonk, ballads, spoken recitations, and rockabilly pop tunes. He had two dozen Top 20 hits in the Billboard country charts between 1953 and 1975; his versatility and matinee-idol looks propelling a seven-decade entertainment career. 'Gone But Not Forgotten' is a look back at this great entertainer's talent.

A new Ferlin Husky album is a rare and unexpected treat for fans of traditional country music. Husky sold more than 20 million records, mostly in the 50s and early 60s. He passed away in 2011 at the age of 85 and fans believed that was the end of Husky's music... until now. Executive Producer and President of Country Rewind Records, Tom Gramuglia, discovered tapes of Husky that had never before been commercially released. The recordings originate from a series of sixteen 15-minute shows titled "The Navy Hoedown Show'', and later, "Hootenavy", recorded at Scotty ivloore's Music City Recorders Studio and at Columbia Recording Studios in Nashville be-tween 1972 and 1973. The shows were broadcast over the American Forces Net-work, with Husky singing some of his own hits and other popular songs. After the
broadcast, the master tapes were put aside and forgotten. Gramuglia rescued the tapes, and with the blessing of the Husky family, turned them over to producer Paul Martin whose skillful touch has breathed new life into these lost'tracks. "I have always believed in the healing power of music," said Martin. "My favorite part of this project was bringing Ferlin's family into my studio to put backing vocals on his hit "Timber, I'm Fallin". It was so special seeing his wife, daughters, grandsons, son-in law, and even a few friends singing and laughing one minute, then being reminded of the bittersweet moment and there would be a few tears shed the next. It was simply heartwarming! When we were all done and everybody was leaving the studio, it was as if his family had just stopped by to pay a visit with their dear husband/father/grandfather. Because of these special recordings, Ferlin will continue to live on." With his resonant voice and good looks, Ferlin Husky was a truly versa-tile entertainer. He was a singer, songwriter, guitarist, actor and even a comedian, but made his most lasting impression as a live performer. He was one of the first country artists to have his name on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and toured wide-ly in the USA and overseas. He topped the Country charts in 1957 with "Gone," and scored another Number One in 1960 with "Wings of a Dove"that became one of his signature songs. Martin had a hard time picking a favorite song from the project. 'Tim-ber, I'm Falling' is a great song penned by one of my songwriting heroes, Dallas Frazier," he notes. "His remakes of his many hits like "Wings Of A Dove" or "Sweet Misery" are just wonderful. His unique interpretations of"Alabama Jubilee" and "Green Green Grass Of I lome" are sure to make you put them right up beside their original counterparts!' Martin added, "I believe if Ferlin were still here with us today, he would have no problem with this previously unreleased material being made available to his fans. I am willing to bet he will make some new fans with this project too!"
The title 'entertainer' is used frequently to describe people who sing, dance or tell jokes, some for a few months and some for years. To perform all three for a lifetime is rare. Ferlin Husky accomplished that and more.
A quick look at Wikipedia shows dozens of hits, both on the country charts as well as crossovers to the pop charts. He appeared on TV shows and hosted a few. He also appeared in several movies and earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
