Jimmy Holiday

Next Stop Vietnam

I Wanna Help Hurry My Brothers Home

Jimmy Holiday

Jimmy Holiday's I Wanna Help Hurry My Brothers Home is a rare example of a black artist singing about how he wants "to fight that war in Vietnam." Released on New Orleans' Minit label, the single 'bubbled under' the Hot 100 for one week at #132

Holiday was born in Durant, Michigan on July 24, 1934. His first chart appearance as a singer was in 1963. How Can I Forget climbed to #8 on the R&B Chart and a respectable #57 on the Pop Chart. In both instances it out-performed the cover version by the better known Ben E. King. He had three more hits on Minit in the late '60s, but then focused his talents on song writing. His greatest success came when he collaborated with Jackie DeShannon on Put A Little Love In Your Heart [#4 in 1969]. Holiday died of heart failure on February 15, 1987.
