Just in time for Jimi Hendrix's 80th birthday, the complete live recording of The Jimi Hendrix Experience concert from the Forum in Los Angeles on April 26, 1969 is released for the first time.
In front of a sold-out crowd, Hendrix, drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Noel Redding played a unique set featuring highlights such as "I Don't Live Today," "Purple Haze," "Red House" and a stunning medley of "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" and "Sunshine Of Your Love" by Cream. This pristine recording, remixed by Hendrix's longtime engineer Eddie Kramer, features the Jimi Hendrix Experience at its incomparable best. A portion of this performance was previously part of a short-lived Westwood One radio documentary box set [Lifelines 1990-1992], but has not been available in any form for two decades. This CD release, with a 24-page booklet - complete with liner notes by ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, who witnessed the show firsthand - gives this landmark performance a fitting platform, presenting the complete performance mixed directly from the original 8-track master tapes.

Geboren 27.11.1942 Seattle - USA Gestorben 18. 9.1970 in London Heute ist er eine Legende, ein gefeierter Superstar. 3 Jahre seines Lebens genügten, um das zu erreichen. Von seinem ersten Hit „Hey Joe' (Januar 1967) bis zu seinem Tode erreichte er alles, wurde er Millionär. Doch bis dahin hatte James Marshal Hendrix nichts zu lachen.

1966 entdeckte ihn der damalige Animals-Bassist Chas Chandler in einem New Yorker Club und bot ihm einen Vertrag an. Chandler bezahlte Jimi Hendrix den Flug nach London und suchte ihm mit Schlagzeuger Mitch Mitchell und Bassist Noel Redding 2 exzellente Begleitmusiker aus und ließ sie in Paris und Kopenhagen auftreten. Innerhalb weniger Wochen war Jimi Hendrix die Sensation in Europa. Seine Aufmachung (Hippie-Lock und Afro-Frisur) sowie seine spektakuläre Bühnenshow machten ihn schneller berühmt als jede andere Gruppe.

Jimi Hendrix war einer der ersten Stars, der keine Single-Hits benötigte, um LPs zu verkaufen und Konzerthallen zu füllen. ln seiner amerikanischen Heimat gelang ihm gemeinsam mit den „Who“ und „Janis Joplin' der Durchbruch beim ersten Rock-Festival der Welt (Monterey-Festival 1967). Seine wohl beste LP ist bis heute die 1968 veröffentlichte „Electric Ladyland'.
PS: Angeblich sollen noch etwa 800 Stunden Musik auf Bändern unveröffentlicht sein.
