Bear Family Records® presents the versatile Jack Hammer in its popular 'Dancefloor' series.
Between 1956 and '66 Hammer developed from a classic American R'n'R style singer/songwriter (he wrote Great Balls Of Fire along with Otis Blackwell) to the 'Twistin' King' in Europe and later to an impressive soul singer.
This CD contains rare early studio recordings (including a previously unreleased track) and rather unknown live tv recordings.
His hits include Kissin' Twist or The Wiggle and Wigglin' Fool.
In the 36-page color booklet with rare photos, illustrations and in-detail discographical info, Chicago music journalist Bill Dahl provides details on Hammer's international career.

From the Bill Haley sound to the dancefloor king

Jack Hammer's early recordings are reminiscent of the traditional rock 'n' roll sound of Bill Haley. Hammer was also a sought-after songwriter who was involved in classics of the genre such as Great Balls Of Fire and Milkshake Mademoiselle. But Jack Hammer's career took adventurous paths.

In the early 1960s, he moved to Europe, where he celebrated his biggest hits on the Ronnex label. He invented a new dance with The Wiggle, and hits such as Kissin' Twist and Wigglin' Fool guaranteed him international recognition.

The CD contains all the hits as well as a number of rarities, from an unreleased track from 1959 to rare live tv recordings from German television in 1963. A series of fine soul recordings, made between 1965 and '66 in the USA and Great Britain, round off the overall picture.

The impressive career of songwriter, singer and dancer Jack Hammer, who performed in the USA, Great Britain, France, Belgium and Germany, is impressively presented here on 32 tracks. Jack Hammer's detailed biography with many previously unknown details researched by Bill Dahl can be read in the 36-page color booklet.

Rare photos, illustrations and a meticulous discography complete the booklet. Together with the remastered recordings in crystal-clear sound, this release is an experience!
