Und als Liederschreiber kam ihm zu Gute, dass er sich schon immer für den Journalismus interessiert hatte. So sind denn auch seine Songs meist nichts anderes als vertonte Geschichten und Hall selbst nennt man immer wieder „The Singing Storyteller“.

Und was nahm er nicht schon alles aufs Korn:Die Heuchler in „Harper Valley P.T.A“ und in „Ballad Of Forty Dollars“, die Versuchung in „Margie's At The Lincoln Park Inn“ und die falsche Lebensphilosophie in ,Faster Horses, Younger Women, Older Whiskey And More Money“. Tom T.Hall gehört zu den schärfsten Beobachtern und den erfreulichsten Erscheinungen des Country Music Business.
