Nathan Evans Fox, an indie-country artist who grew up in North Carolina and now lives in Nashville, writes songs that explore the fault lines between family, faith, work and heritage – a theme that is powerfully expressed on his 2026 album *Heirloom*.

Raised on land that has been in his family for four generations, at the end of a cul-de-sac in Glen Alpine, North Carolina, Fox grew up in a community marked by factory closures, redundancies and the slow erosion of working-class stability. His sound carries working-class critique and community-centred hope to places that might otherwise resist them. For him, country music is about embracing his twang, working within traditions and ensuring that the most difficult conversations take place in a language that feels familiar. Fox affectionately calls it ‘Comrade Country’.

Sonically, ‘Heirloom’ is brimming with the texture and spirit of the Appalachians. The banjo weaves its way through the entire album in inventive ways – played with a bow, muted and used percussively – serving less as a symbol of tradition and more as a means of storytelling.
