Neben seiner Solo-Arbeit ist er einer der gesuchtesten Session Musiker in Nashville. Ähnlich wie David Grisman, so experimen- tiert „The Flux“, wie man Jerry Douglas gerne nennt, mit dem Jazz. Douglas, der bedauert daß er keine Noten lesen kann, spielte schon in den verschiedensten Bands, so zum Beispiel mit den Country Gentlemen, mit J.D.Crowe, Tony Rice, Ricky Skaggs, Jimmy Murphy, David Grisman, Doyle Lawson, Emmylou Harris, Buck White, Carl Jackson und der Gruppe Boone Creek.
