Douglas, der bedauert daß er keine Noten lesen kann, spielte schon in den verschiedensten Bands, so zum Beispiel mit den Country Gentlemen, mit J.D.Crowe, Tony Rice, Ricky Skaggs, Jimmy Murphy, David Grisman, Doyle Lawson, Emmylou Harris, Buck White, Carl Jackson und der Gruppe Boone Creek.
