Willie Dixon, geboren am 1. April 1915 in Vicksburg, Mississippi, leistete einen Beitrag zum urbanen Blues der Nachkriegszeit, der als große und anregende Kraft die Grundlagen für die populäre Musik von heute legte.

In seinen kombinierten Rollen als Komponist, Produzent und Studio-Bassist - A&R Mann für Chess Records in den fünfziger und sechziger Jahren war er verantwortlich für Hit-Aufnahmen von Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter, Sonny Boy Wil-liamson, Buddy Guy, Otis Rush und anderen. Zu seinen Kompositionen gehören Iloochie Coochie Man", My Babe", Spoonful", You Shook Me", Whole Lotta Love", I Just Want To Make Love To You", Little Red Rooster" und Seventh Son".

Dixons Songs wurden von zeitgenössischen Rockkünstlern wie den Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Ten Years After, Jeff Beck, Savoy Brown, The Animals und der Spencer Davis Group aufgenommen.
