(2002 'Blind Pig') (42:09/13) Derzeit gibt es in der US-Szene wohl niemanden, der authentisch wie er den Blues- und R&B-Sound der späten 40er/frühen 50er Jahre reproduziert. Wie schon die beiden Vorgänger, so sprüht auch das neue Album vor Spielfreude und -witz; spiel- und soundtechnisch eine perfekte Zeitreise. Am erstaunlichsten jedoch, dass Nicks Gesang absolut echt und wie ein 'echter' Shouter der Ära klingt. Gewohnt souveräne Mischung aus Covern und eigenem Material. Zudem spielt Nick eine gepflegte Gitarre und wird von einem Bewunderer, Jimmy Vaughan, bei zwei Nummern begleitet. Für alle Freunde perfekter Täuschung und Liebhaber der Musik der frühen Tage eine Topp-Empfehlung / nobody can do it like he does: reproducing the sound and the feeling of the late '40s/early '50s. His new one, like the predecessors, is a perfect time machine taking you back. Nick loves to play, and it shows. His playing is on-the-spot, as are his vocals. If I wouldn't know it better, I would say he's African-American. The music is a nice mix of covers and originals that sound like covers. Performed with high-energy and the support of one of his biggest fans, Jimmy Vaughan, on two tracks, 'Doctor Velvet' is another gift for all you lovers of perfect illusions. Highly recommended.
