Who was/is The Counts ? - CDs, Vinyl LPs, DVD and more

Both sides of The Counts’ 1958 Mercury single were written by the duo of Eddie Mascari and Erwin ‘Dutch’ Wenzlaff, a prolific Chicago pair. They would write I Got A Wife, a ‘59 Mercury hit for The Mark IV, then engage in ‘60s A&R work for Mercury and other Windy City concerns. A Mercury ad plugging The Counts’ single showing a well-groomed young white duo leaves one wondering if Eddie and Dutch were The Counts. Their Shake The Town, cut at Jack Wiener’s Sheldon Recording Studios (aka Chess’ Ter-Mar Studios at 2120 S, Michigan), was a brisk duet urged on by At The Hop-style piano (Teen-Age Guy And Gal occupied the B-side). Eddie & Dutch finally did pierce the pop hit parade in 1970 with their comic novelty My Wife, The Dancer on the Ivanhoe label.
