COUNT BASIE & HIS ORCHESTRA ONE NIGHT STAND BROADCASTS 1944-46 This collection contains five performances by Count Basie's Orchestra between 1944 and 1946 During the final years of World War II and after, the American Forces Radio Service broadcast regular shows to entertain the troops and keep up morale, and many of the best swing and big bands of the day adopted "live" broadcasts as part of this effort. This collection contains five performances by Count Basie's Orchestra between 1944 and 1946 at popular New York venues, broadcast as part of the AFRS series "One Night Stand." The lineups feature some of the biggest names that passed through Basie's band - including Lester Young, Illinois Jacquet, Walter Page, Harry 'Sweets' Edison, Dicky Wells and Jo Jones - and singers include Jimmy Rushing and Thelma Carpenter. The recordings have not been available on CD before, so they should be of interest to collectors and enthusiasts who enjoy capturing the atmosphere of the "live" jazz broadcasts with accompanying announcements that were popular at the time. Basie's Band exhibits.
