The great US state of Kentucky is world-famous for many things. Bluegrass music? Yes, of course. The velvety, best tasting bourbon made by man? It doesn't get much better than that. One thing you don't always associate with Kentucky is rock 'n' roll. The Cold Stares are determined to change that perception.

Chris Tapp and Brian Mullins have known each other for years. They grew up in western Kentucky, just a stone's throw from the Indiana border. They originally started playing together in their early twenties before going their separate ways, only to reunite a decade later as The Cold Stares. "There are a lot of great musicians here, but it's hard to find people with bite," explains Mullins.

The majority of the album was recorded in a single day at Sam Phillips' fabled recording studio in Memphis. The Cold Stares have delivered their best album to date, which is an intense musical mix of Blind Willie Johnson meets Son House; Stevie Ray Vaughan meets Black Sabbath; Soundgarden meets Black Crowes; Free meets Led Zeppelin. "I feel like I'm expressing what I want to say a little more succinctly and elegantly, and I think that Brian and I, after playing and making records together for so long, are pretty clear about the statement we want to make now," Tapp said. "We were never one of those bands where we said, 'We're really going to do something completely different on the next record.' We were happy with the feeling we started with. We want to be the band that we are."
