There can't be many bands that are equally at home playing to both a Rockabilly and a Psychobilly crowd, yet the Caravans find themselves in that enviable position. Led by multi-talented Mark Penington, the band has been touring and recording for over 20 years. For much of this time they havebeen a headline act, and despite line-up changes and near fatal accidents, they are still going strong. Subtitled "Acoustic And Unhinged", "Return To Zero" sees The Caravans perform some of their best known songs, some new material, and some surprise covers entirely on acoustic instruments. A totally excellent and totally rockin' outing for one of the Psychobilly scene's favourite bands.

Band-Geschichte

Die Caravans begannen als eine dieser schlagkräftigen, Uptempo-melodischen Neo-Rockabilly-Bands. Die Band wurde ursprünglich von Mark Penington (v, b) im Vereinigten Königreich gegründet, kurz nachdem er von der British Navy 1983 entlassen wurde. Nach seinem Umzug nach Portsmouth, arbeitete er mit Lee Barnett (d) und Craig Boyd (g) zusammen. In den Jahren danach tourte die Band durch ganz Großbritannien und trat auch bei einigen der großen europäischen Festivals auf, wobei sie bei Rockabillies und Psychobillies gleichermaßen gut ankamen. Die Caravans hatten bereits vor dem Line-Up von Mark Penington (v/b), Rich Caso (g) und Lee Barnett (d), plus die zwei Rhythmusgitarren von Darren Frances und Brian Gillman, die 3-Track On The Rocks EP und ihr erstes LP-Album Easy Money 1988 aufgenommen.

Guana Batz, Demented und das Big Rumble

Von da an begannen die Dinge zu florieren. Obwohl Mark Penington und seine Caravans immer mal wieder gezwungen waren, die Besetzung der Band zu ändern, sind sie immer erfolgreicher geworden. Sie reisten durch ganz Europa und unterstützten die Guana Batz sogar auf einer Japan-Tournee. Sie spielten auch im Charlotte Alldayer und wurden dreimal für das Big Rumble gebucht und haben bis heute mehr als ein Dutzend Alben veröffentlicht. Penington hat mit dem ehemaligen Demented Are Go!-Mitglied Paul Lambourne (b) und Lee Barnett (d) das aktuelle Line-Up komplettiert. Andere bekannte Musiker, die in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten für The Caravans gespielt, bzw. aufgenommen haben, sind Jonny Bowler (d / b), Gary Day (b), Jim Jeffries (g), Sam Penington (d) und Ritchie Taylor (d).
