CALLICOTT, Joe: North Mississippi Blues

(1967/68 'Southland') (40:28/12) Von George Mitchell Ende der 60er Jahre in Nesbit, Mississippi aufgespürter Musiker, der 1930 zwei Songs aufgenommen hatte - und danach in der Obskurität verschwand. Bis Ende der 50er Jahre spielte er noch in der Gegend seiner Heimat mit Garfield Akers. Callicott starb kurze Zeit nach seiner Wiederentdeckung. Dieses schöne Album ist sein musikalisches Vermächtnis / The North Mississippi bluesman had recorded two songs in 1930, before he disappeared into obscurity. It was researcher/producer George Mitchell that re-discovered him in 1967. Callicott was still living near Nesbit, Mississippi where had performed locally with his partner Garfield Akers. When Akers died in the late 1950s Callicott quit playing music. These nice recordings are his testimony.
