Beat Farmers

1983 gründeten Country Dick Montana und Jerry Raney in San Diego die Beat Farmers. Komplettiert wurde das Quartett durch den Gitarristen Bernard 'Buddy Blue' Seigal und den Bassisten Rolle Love, beide von der Rockabilly-Band The Rockin' Roulettes.

1987 brachten sie mit 'The Pursuit Of Happiness' ihr drittes Album heraus. Die druckvolle und recht rocklastige Platte enthielt die Übernummer 'Hollywood Hills', der Büffel auf dem Cover wurde zum neuen Markenzeichen der Band. Zwischenzeitlich war Joey Harris für Buddy Blue an der Gitarre eingesprungen, womit die Beat Farmers vollends beim Cowpunk gelandet waren – so nannten die Vier ihren originären Mix aus Rock'n'Roll, Rockabilly, Americana, Blues, Folk und Country.

In ähnlichen Gefilden waren zu dieser Zeit Jason & The Scorchers, Nine Pound Hammer und die Blasters unterwegs. Im Frühsommer 1987 gingen die Beat Farmers in Europa auf Tournee. Live machten die Beat Farmers keine Gefangenen, sie spielten laut, rockig, dreckig, rotzig, voller Elan und Spielfreude. Obwohl die Band dabei Punk- und Rockabilly-Attitüden zelebrierte, ist ein Faible für Country im Stil von Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show unüberhörbar.
