Through With Cool is Al Basile's 19th release as a solo artist and the third he has produced. It features 14 new Al Basile songs, with a band that includes current and former members of the Duke Robillard Band and Roomful of Blues, and adds BMA-nominated best guitarist Kid Andersen to the mix, as on last year's release B's Testimony. Al himself has 8 BMA nominations since 2010, and his songwriting builds on and expands blues and roots traditions in distinctive and accessible ways, and his cornet solos come from mainstream jazz but are adapted to the shifting rhythms of contemporary blues.

Al Basile wuchs in einem Park in Haverhill, Massachusetts, auf. Er graduierte 1966 an der Phillips Academy und erhielt 1970 als erster einen Master-Abschluss des Brown University Writing Program. Er begann seine musikalische Karriere 1973 als Kornettist bei Roomful of Blues und arbeitet seit 1990 mit der Duke Robillard Band als Songwriter und Aufnahmemitglied auf zwölf CDs und einer DVD; seine Songs wurden in Film und Fernsehen verwendet und von Künstlern wie Ruth Brown und Johnny Rawls sowie den Bands New Jump Blues und den Knickerbocker All Stars aufgenommen.

Er hat fünfzehn Solo-Blues- und Roots-CDs unter seinem eigenen Namen herausgebracht, wobei die meisten in ihrem Erscheinungsjahr die Top 15 der Living Blues Airplay-Charts erreicht haben. Sie wurden alle von Robillard produziert und zeigen sein Gitarrenspiel und viele ehemalige Roomful-Mitglieder: Gastkünstler waren die Blind Boys of Alabama, der Jazzgrößen Scott Hamilton und die verstorbene Sista Monica Parker. Seit 2010 wurde er sieben Mal für den Blues Music Award als bester Hornist nominiert; seine CD Mid-Century Modern 2016 wurde als Best Contemporary Blues Album nominiert. Er ist auch ein preisgekrönter Dichter, mit zwei veröffentlichten Büchern, 2011's A Lit House und 2017's Tonesmith. Von 1980-2005 unterrichtete er Vollzeit an der Providence Country Day School in East Providence, RI und konzentriert sich seitdem auf das Schreiben, Aufführen und Aufnehmen.
