The album title says it all, because Death Valley is known to be a place of extremes. 'To survive and thrive in these circumstances and to find your paradise in them. For me, it sums up the journey I've been through. As a musician, you were put in a place where it was hard to survive and you had to do different things to keep it going.' Barras relates this particularly to the Corona pandemic: 'For 18 months the world stood still and we had no control over what was going to happen. I had a particularly hard time with it. I didn't want to get out of bed in the morning. I didn't want to do anything. That was really hard', says Barras.

Drahtige Erscheinung, Muskeln wie aus Stahl, ein üppiger Rauschebart und großflächige Tattoos auf dem Körper: Kris Barras mutet auf den ersten Blick wie ein enorm harter Hund an - und genau das ist er auch. Bis vor wenigen Jahren noch hat der 32-jährige Brite seine Brötchen vorwiegend als Mixed-Martial-Arts-Profi verdient.

Gitarrist und Sänger

Mit jener spektakulär anzusehenden Vollkontaktsportart also, bei der die Kämpfer ihre Gegner im Ring unter anderem mit Schlägen und Tritten auf das Heftigste traktieren. 2014 hängte er seine Sportlerkarriere an den Nagel, um sich verstärkt seiner Passion als Gitarrist und Sänger zu widmen. Einer Leidenschaft, die er seit seinen Teenagertagen nebenbei pflegt und die - wenn alles wie geplant läuft - sein Leben in Zukunft ganz wesentlich bestimmen soll.

Gehörig Schub bekam die Sache letztes Jahr, als Karras und seine Band im Zuge ihrer ersten größeren Europatour sehr erfolgreiche Club- und Festivalauftritte in Deutschland, Litauen, Polen, der Slowakei sowie zu Hause in England absolvierten. Was folgte, war ein Plattenvertrag-Angebot der Mascot Label Group, unter deren Dach Kris Barras jetzt gemeinsam mit Szenegrößen wie Joe Bonamassa, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang, Walter Trout, Eric Gales und Sonny Landreth zu Hause ist.
