Alabama, die mit Abstand erfolgreichste Gesangs- und Instrumentalgruppe der 80er Jahre, begann in den frühen 70ern durch Clubs ihres Heimatstaates Alabama zu tingeln. Später sprengte sie die heimatlichen Grenzen und kam bis hoch nach South Carolina. Damals noch ohne Plattenvertrag, ließ die Gruppe im Eigenverlag ihre Platten selbst pressen und verkaufte sie nach den Konzerten von der Bühne.

1977 erschien dann eine erste Single bei GRT, die auch gleich in die Country Hit Parade einstieg. Es folgte ein Vertrag bei MDJ Records in Dallas und schließlich, nach weiteren Chart-Erfolgen, ein Kontrakt mit RCA Das Eis war gebrochen. Mit einem ganz speziellen Sound, der die Gruppe sofort als „Alabama“ erkennbar werden ließ, kam von nun an fast jede Single auf Platz 1 der Country Hit Parade und jede L.P. wurde mindestens ,vergoldet'. Mit Hilfe des meist sehr kommerziell angelegten Arrangements schaffte die Gruppe schließlich auch Pop-Erfolge und da, im Pop-Bereich, scheint sich Alabama auch offensichtlich am wohlsten zu fühlen. Denn trotz ein paar sehr schöner Country Titel wie „Dixieland Delight“ oder ,Roll On Eighteen Wheeler“, scheint die Gruppe nun doch endgültig auf dem Pop-Musik-Trip zu sein.
