Donald Ray Williams, der Riese mit der sanften Stimme, zählt zu den ganz großen Stars der 70er Jahre. Mit einem einfachen, transparenten sogenannten Laid-Back-Arrangement und einer tiefen, sanften Stimme schmeichelte er sich nicht nur bei den Country- sondern auch bei den Pop-Musik-Fans ein. Don Williams hatte als Mitglied bei der Pop-Folk-Gruppe Pozo Seco Singers begonnen. Zusammen mit Susan Taylor und Lofton Kline hatte Williams die Gruppe 1964 gegründet. Nach einem großen Erfolg 1965 mit dem Titel Time und ein paar kleineren Follow-Ups, lösten sich die Pozo Seco Singers 1971 auf. Don Williams zog sich nach Texas zurück, nur um wenig später als Songwriter nach Nashville zu ziehen. So ganz nebenbei begann er auch wieder zu singen und aus diesem Nebenbei wurde rasch ein Riesenerfolg. In den 70er Jahren kam jede seiner Singles unter die Country Top Ten und aus den Anfangserfolgen entwickelte sich eine Serie, die bis heute nicht abgerissen ist, auch wenn sich Don Williams seit 1986 etwas zurückzuziehen begann.
