West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band Part One (LP, 180g Vinyl, Ltd.)

With their second album, *Part One*, The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band breathed new life into bizarre, psychedelic rock music. The album features a variety of cover versions, including songs by greats such as Frank Zappa and P. F. Sloan.

It is the most song-oriented album the band released during their active period from 1966 to 1970, even though it still clearly features the somewhat schizophrenic melodies so characteristic of their sound. Thus, the cover of Zappa’s ‘Help, I’m A Rock’ still sounds somewhat alienating, whilst P. F. Sloan’s ‘Here’s Where You Belong’ showcases a more mainstream folk-rock sound.

During their brief existence, the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band made a name for themselves with their strange compositions, which on the one hand are sometimes reminiscent of the charismatic sound of the Byrds, whilst on the other are more inspired by the pioneering spirit of the likes of Captain Beefheart or Frank Zappa.
