With "Imaginary Appalachia", Colter Wall proves that a step backwards does not always mean a step backwards.  However, the collection of songs demonstrates such unusual originality that a reissue after his first successful album "Colter Wall" is definitely worthwhile.
Musically, "Imaginary Appalachia" remains wonderfully categorizable. More and more artists feel they have to mix country music with all kinds of musical genres. Colter Wall remains as straightforward with his music as he is with his lyrics. A lot of folk and Americana and a bit of country music await the listener, that's it.
