Although Martha and Lucy are sisters, they did not grow up together. And apart from their genetic relationship, it was their musical connection that drove them to this project. Both spent their childhood in a very musical environment, where their mothers (Kate McGarrigle and Suzzy Roche respectively) regularly sang songs to them. Some of these songs, now reinterpreted, were penned by their mothers or their father, Loudon Wainwright III. The record is a tribute to these songs, which had a lasting influence on them in their childhood and in which the two singer/songwriters found a close connection to each other despite their physical separation
