FOMO – April Verch’s Take Me Back is a lively and distinctive album that brings together folk, bluegrass and traditional acoustic music with a contemporary approach. Originally released by Rounder Records in 2006, the CD contains 14 tracks and runs for approximately 52 minutes. At the heart of the album is the combination of fiddle, vocals and traditional melodies presented through carefully arranged performances. The programme includes Take Me Back, Grand Saque, All In A Night, Monarch, I Still Cry, Eclipse, Bride Of Jesus, Loggers In The Short Grass, Tennessee Wagoner, Cruel Moon, Seven Years, Tom, Brad & Alice, Wings To Fly and This Ottawa Valley. The selection moves naturally between songs, instrumental pieces and traditional dance material, giving the album plenty of variety without losing its acoustic character. April Verch brings a strong sense of tradition together with a personal and contemporary musical voice, making Take Me Back an appealing discovery for listeners interested in folk, bluegrass and roots music. FOMO for collectors and fans of expressive fiddle playing, traditional North American sounds and beautifully crafted acoustic arrangements. This is exactly the kind of roots album that deserves attention before it becomes harder to find.
