(2012/JSP) 87 tracks. The Rembetiko emerged in the early 19th century in the subcultures of Greece, in Athens, Thessaloniki and other cities. They were populated by the Greeks, had to emigrate from Izmir and Istanbul as part of the 'population exchange' with Turkey - and lack of work slid partly into prostitution and drug trafficking. The 'Greece Blues' is about the hardships of everyday life and the hopelessness of escaping them. The fact that women were among the most famous singers of this style, is little known. The 4 CD box is a unique compilation of nearly 100 audio documents that go back until the year 1908 (!)
