In the early years of the disco wave, it was the smaller, independent labels that represented the new sound. Salsoul in 1974 was followed by SAM Records, then West End and Prelude in 1976: four labels from which countless disco classics emerged.

This compilation brings together all the classic material released by SAM between 1975 and 1983. The compilation starts with 'Woman Of The Ghetto' by Doris Duke and offers a treasure trove of disco/boogie music with tracks by Gary's Gang, John Davis & The Monster Orchestra, Komiko, Rhyze, Convertion, Vicky "D", Greg Henderson or tracks by Lucy Hawkins, Mike and Brenda Sutton, B.B.C.S & A, K.I.D, Kreamcicle, Sound Troupe, David Mc Pherson and many more.

The audio data used here comes from the SAM archives and in many cases the mixes appear in their original 12inch version. The set is rounded off with extensive liner notes.
