Flamenco is a Spanish art form that has always tended to hybridize with a wide variety of musical languages. Consequently, the universe of "flamenco fusion" may well reflect the way Spaniards have engaged with other cultures throughout history.And this relationship has often been one of dialogue, exchange, mutual respect, and cross-pollination. Factors that may have fostered the traditional hybridization of flamenco include the openness of the southern Iberian Peninsula to the various civilizations that settled there; the encounter with the Americas in 1492 and the resulting bonds with Spanish-speaking nations; and the fact that the *Casa de Contratación de Indias*—the institution that regulated travel and trade between Spain and the Americas for centuries—was established in none other than... Seville! (and *olé*); not to mention the fundamental contribution of Africa, brought by millions of enslaved Black people to the Americas over four centuries of the slave trade. *Pícaro* Vol. 4 is an outstanding example of how certain Spanish flamenco musicians have successfully harnessed trends in styles and rhythms from outside Spain, creating a new sonic universe and incorporating these elements into their repertoire. Undoubtedly, a generational shift in "Flamenco Ye-Ye" is underway in Spain with artists like Rosalía and C. Tangana—though it may now be necessary to modernize the "label" itself. This compilation offers a snapshot of the various styles of flamenco hybridization that emerged globally during the 1950s and 1960s. Through its grooves, we discover "Flamenco Ye-Yé" (Track 1), Flamenco Rock & Roll (Tracks 3 and 4), Flamenco Cha-Cha-Chá (Tracks 6, 7, and 15), and Flamenco Mambo (Track 12), alongside other unusual, exotic, and unlikely blends of Spanish vocals with *tango arrabalero*, bluegrass, easy listening, swing, groove, and soul. It is, throughout, a joyful mix—curated with exquisite taste—brought together on this vinyl for your listening pleasure.
