Kickin' It on the Creek is one of the best music festivals in Appalachia today, organized by Byron Roberts of Wolfpen Productions and held in Ross Creek, Kentucky, on Roberts' farm. The festival was launched in 2015, following a successful celebration for Roberts' son and a CD benefit for Tyler Childers in 2014. Since then, Kickin' It on the Creek has featured local and regional bands from the mountains of Estill and Lee County, Kentucky, as well as representatives of traditional musical styles from around the country.The album, "Just Behind the Creek: Field Recording at Kickin' It on the Creek 2019," was recorded in Robert's living room just backstage and features a wide range of music with well-known and talented musicians playing traditional tunes as well as their own beautiful original songs.

The record features a variety of artists including Grammy nominated fiddler Bobby Britt (Town Mountain), Jesse Wells (Tyler Childers & The Food Stamps), Joe Macheret (The Tillers & Joe's Truck Stop), Montana Hobbs (The Local Honeys), Chris Shouse (Hancock & Shouse), Teresa Prince (Luna and the Mountain Jets), Brett Ratliff, Senora May and many others, and "truly captures the magic of this mountain music that we cherish so much," as festival owner Roberts says. He also says, "Music heals in many more ways than any of us realize," and "music has helped people in Appalachia through hard times for generations."

Kickin' It on the Creek is now playing an important role in connecting music lovers and healing people through great mountain music, as well as showcasing the true culture of Appalachia. Field Recording at Kickin' It on the Creek 2019 documents the current state of the various types of mountain music performed by 19 artists, and how mountain musical traditions are being passed on to younger generations with their own flavors. They represent the current musical culture of Appalachia and will help the people of Appalachia overcome these difficult times.
