(2014/Spectre) 50 tracks, 1944 /1945, 4-page informative booklet. In the beginning of the year 1945 Allied troops went straight forward and Germany lived through heaviest bombardements and air raids day and night. Soviet troops were knocking on Berlin's doors in April and the West-Allieds captured the last river Rhine bridge after they went through the battle of the bulge. Hitler committed suicide on 30^thApril and the unconditional surrender of the German Wehrmacht followed on 8^thMay.
VE Day! Ground Zero in Germany. But the fighting continued in the Pacific theatre until August 15^thwhen emperor Hirohito signed Japan's unconditional surrender after the American A-bomb dropping – VJ Day!
Germany had been divided into 4 occupation zones. October 1945: Charta of the United Nation started. November: Beginning of the Nuremberg Trials against Nazi crimes and its denazification. December: Foundation of the International Monetary Fund. German cities were completely in ruins, most men were prisoners of war, and so-called German 'Trümmerfrauen' started to liberate cities from rubble and hard dirt. Cultural life came up very slowly. German productions had been stopped almost completely already before the war ended. The occupants, mostly GI's, brought ''their'' music with them. German Schlager of the year were for the better part ancient German productions which had been reissued under Allied control plus of course British-American recordings from Allied radio programs. The influence of Swing takes a big part in the German Schlager and gladly the times of Nazi-called ''degenarated'' music was over. The Germans started to love the ''American Way Of Life''.
