Various Death, Glory And Retribution (LP)

Various – Death, Glory And Retribution is an unusual rock compilation from the 1980s featuring recordings from 1958 to 1970. Its selection brings together macabre songs, protest material and so-called answer records that respond to earlier hits in their lyrics or musical approach. Featured tracks include Endless Sleep by Jody Reynolds, Dead Man’s Curve by Jan & Dean, D.O.A. by Bloodrock, Sam Stone by Bob Gibson and Glen Campbell’s version of Universal Soldier. The album also includes Home Of The Brave by Jody Miller, My Bologna by “Weird Al” Yankovic, Then I Kissed Her by The Beach Boys and Surf And Shout by The Isley Brothers. Rather than following the pattern of a conventional hits collection, this LP explores unusual subjects and distinctive song ideas from American pop and rock history.
