Chicago - The Blues - Today! Vol. 1 is the first installment of the definitive three-part series from Vanguard Records. Producer Samuel Charters brought in nine of the Midwest's finest blues artists in 1965 to record a short set showcasing the electric sound of Chicago blues. Vol. 1 features J. B. Hutto, Otis Spann and Junior Wells with contributions from Buddy Guy. This LP was mastered from the original ALL-ANALOG stereo tapes, pressed on 180-gram vinyl and packaged in a tip-on jacket.
Chicago - The Blues - Today! was first released in 1966 and introduced countless listeners to the blues and helped popularize the genre in the US, UK and beyond. These recordings also influenced a host of emerging rock artists, including The Animals, Eric Clapton and The Yardbirds, the Rolling Stones and later the Allman Brothers Band. Several artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Steppenwolf even began to include songs from the series in their repertoire.
