The story of this compilation begins with a decades-old myth: the “Mystery Singer” on a 10-inch acetate demo that Sam Phillips played for Elvis in June 1954. Phillips, unable to find out the singer's name, asked Elvis to sing the song as his debut recording. The young, unknown Elvis was intimidated by the idea. After trying to record the song, Elvis felt that he could not do it justice and instead recorded “That's All Right”. The existence of the demo became an urban myth. The singer was finally identified in early 2017 by writer Chris Kennedy as Jimmy Sweeney, whose suspicions were confirmed by several sources, including Jimmy's daughter Eugenia. Sweeney's masterpiece is now finally being released under his own name on this compilation. In addition to “Without You”, the album contains some of Sweeney's best recordings, many of which have never been released.
