Allright. These blues have been around for a while, usually stamped as 'retro blues', a recently rather unprofitable label. It appears to be difficult expanding the borders of this genre which seems to be caught in a frame of tradition, and shopworn modernity. What will remains is the rock-solid and the ongoing attempt to breath fresh air into the blues. There's one guy on the scene today who's releasing one great record after the other. His name is Sugar Ray Norcia. Like almost no other, he knows how to play the blues with verve and feeling. 'Evening' will not instigate the blues revolution. But it's supplying great craftsmanship. It also presents some of today's best players. I don't want to play this, every day. But it can be a lot of fun putting the CD in te player from time to time. SUGAR RAY - voc/hca, 'MONSTER' MIKE WELCH - gtr, ANTHONY GERCAI - kbds, MICHAEL 'MUDCAT' WARD - bass, NEIL GOUVIN - drums.
