Al Stewart: Live At Radio Bremen TV, Musikladen Extra November 7, 1979 (CD+DVD)
(MIG-Music) 14 tracks, digisleeve
Al Stewart was born on September 5, 1945 in Greenock, a small town west of Glasgow. Music became the focus of his life at an early age. He bought his first guitar from future Police guitarist Andy Summers, and King Crimson founder Robert Fripp gave him guitar lessons. In 1967, Al released his first album (“Bedsitter Images”) on CBS. With his fifth longplayer “Past, Present & Future”, the American market discovered the Scottish bard for itself. Stewart combined historical and contemporary events in the lyrics, enriching them with quotes from film and literature. His references to Nostradamus caused a particular stir. Star producer Alan Parsons then took over the studio direction from Al Stewart and produced the million-selling albums “Modern Times”, “Year Of The Cat” and “Time Passages” with him between 1975 and 1978.
These albums set the style for Stewart's later work and so his 1979 Musikladen performance at Radio Bremen consists of tracks from these works. He appears here together with several talented musicians such as Peter White (guitar), Robert Alpert (keyboards), Krysia Christianne (backing vocals) and drummer Harry Stinson (Leon Russell, Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond and many more), who later formed the AOR/melodic rock band Shot In The Dark and were signed to Robert Stigwood's RSO label. Their eponymous debut album was produced by Al Stewart. And Stewart's next studio album “24 Carots”, which was released in 1980, was even brought onto the market under the name Al Stewart & Shot In The Dark.
