Ray Stevens was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1941 and began to study classical music at the piano at the age of 6. He was something of a child prodigy and by the time he was 15 and still at High School he was working part-time as a radio Dl as well as presenting his own show for a local TV Station. On leaving High School, Ray enrolled at Georgia State University, extending his musical studies to include harmony. theory and arranging, all of which were to prove useful in later years.

After recording several singles for Capitol Records while still in his teens, Ray had his first hit in 1961 for Mercury with 'Jeremiah Peabody's Poly-Unsaturated Quick Dissolving Fast Acting Pleasant Tasting Green & Purple Pills' which reached No. 35 on the US Charts. Further comedy hits followed with 'Ahab The Arab' and 'Harry The Hairy Ape' which set a precedent that resulted in such waxings as .Guitarzan., 'Moonlight Special' and The Streak' to name but a few of his many hits. This album illustrates not only the zany side of multi-talented Ray Stevens but also the more musical aspect of his work with Into such as 'Everything Is Beautiful', 'Indian Love Call' and 'Turn Your Radio On'.
