Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood: Nancy & Lee Again (LP, colored Vinyl)
with 20-page booklet
Light in the Attic Records is proud to present the next installment in the Nancy "Sinatra Archival" series with the first reissue of the classic 1972 album Nancy & Lee Again.
Recorded during a 1972 reunion between Nancy and the enigmatic Hazlewood, the album features some of the pair's most enduring and ambitious duets, including the epic "Arkansas Coal (Suite)," the sensual "Paris Summer" and the incredibly powerful Dolly Parton-penned "Down From Dover." "Nancy & Lee Again" is daring, psychedelic, cinematic and sweet in equal measure, revealing with each track a timeless, natural chemistry between two artists who will remain influential for generations to come. "Nancy & Lee Again" is available in a variety of formats, including vinyl and CD.
The vinyl LP is presented in an expanded gatefold cover and accompanied by a 20-page booklet featuring a series of photos from the legendary singer, actress and activist's personal collection, as well as an in-depth conversation with Nancy Sinatra conducted by GRAMMYr-nominated co-producer Hunter Lea (also available in the CD package). All formats were designed by Darryl Norsen of D. Norsen Design beautifully and include two bonus tracks, "Machine Gun Kelly" (on vinyl for the first time) and the previously unreleased "Think I'm Coming Down" Nancy, the eldest daughter of Frank Sinatra, had been working with the Oklahoma-born songwriter since 1965, when she topped the pop charts with These Boots "Are Made For Walkin" Over the next five years, the two artists developed a fruitful relationship in the studio, with Hazlewood writing and producing many of Nancy's solo hits.
The duo soon found success with a series of duets, including "Sand," "Summer Wine" and "Some Velvet Morning," all of which appeared on their influential 1968 debut album. Not long after the chart success of "Nancy & Lee Again" waned, Hazlewood unexpectedly moved to Sweden, leaving his musical partner in the proverbial lurch. America, meanwhile, was in the midst of a cultural shift as the Vietnam War continued. By the turn of the millennium, the musical landscape had changed considerably. "Trivial music and non-deep music became irrelevant," Nancy recalls in conversation with Hunter Lea. "It was a tough time."
But despite these circumstances, the stars aligned, and the duo was able to record some of their greatest music together. Hazlewood, who returned to Los Angeles for the project and once again served as producer, decided to go in a new direction with the duo's second album.
Nancy recalls, "It was more dramatic, it was more fun, it was more challenging. It was more grandiose." "Nancy & Lee Again" remains a creative high point in the careers of Sinatra and Hazlewood and received rave reviews upon its release from Billboard, Record World and Cash Box, among others. Yet "Nancy & Lee Again" never received the spotlight it so richly deserved. "We had no label support at all at the time," Nancy recalls. "Without the strength of a label, records die. We were old. We were old-fashioned. We just weren't what was hip. It's a very ageist business." Still, she adds, "I think it's a very good album. I think it's timeless." After years of being a sought-after rarity, this gem in the Sinatra-Hazlewood canon is finally coming into its own.
