Revival Rock'n'Roll - The Beginning and the seventies

This category includes 'Revival Rock 'n' Roll/Rockabilly' music CDs and vinyl records from the late sixties up till today. Since these music streams are timeless there were as many as so-called 'revivals' from the late 1960s onward. It actually came through the British Teddy Boy scene which was roaming around since the mid-1950s becoming bigger and bigger towards the late 1960s/early 1970s.

They started the first big Rockabilly ArtworksRock 'n' Roll and Rockabilly revivals in Europe. British Bands such as Shakin' Stevens & The Sunsets, The Wild Angels, Alvin Stardust und Matchbox were storming up the charts. Rock 'n' Roll's second springtime happened! Besides the more commercial acts there were 'real' rockers like Crazy Cavan & The Rhythm Rockers, Sandy Ford & The Flying Saucers, and Freddie 'Fingers' Lee who successfully filled the venues in the European theatre.

Stray Cats

The top of Old Smokey was reached after the Stray Cats immigrated from the United States to England back in 1980. Brian Setzer and his band soon became the most successful Rockabilly trio ever since! Their releases were blowing up the charts under the direction of the legendary Dave Edmunds. Edmunds and his way of producing fit to the Stray Cats' sound like coffee and milk. He also worked with Shakin' Stevens and had his own successes as well. Stray Cats were something new, something exciting. They connected the style of 50s Rockabilly music with a mix of modern music-streams. There's a bit Ska and New Wave as well as the influences of their heroes Elvis Presley, Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran.

Neo Rockabilly

That was THE trend during the 1980s. Many more bands had been put together besides the Stray Cats creating wonderful new sound mixtures based on traditional Rockabilly. The style and name of Neo-Rockabilly came up soon. Bands like the 100% Cotton brothers called The Jets who started in 1974 and The Polecats who were roaming around since 1979, both bands charted in '81 with their new modern and fresh sounds. Dave Phillips & The Hot Rod Gang, Restless, The Blue Cats, The Sharks and the early Meteors, who later transformed into Psychobilly, are the most legendary bands in Neo Rockabilly.
