Margo Price: Strays (CD)

(Loma Vista) 10 tracks, digisleeve.

Her journey through several periods of life filled with loss, lies, failure and substance abuse has taught her to let go of trauma, pain and addiction, and this collection of ten original songs is a celebration of freedom in its many, passionate forms.

The album was produced by Jonathan Wilson, who has previously worked for Angel Olsen and Father John Misty, and Price herself. The 10 songs were recorded mainly in the summer of 2021, at Fivestar Studio in Topanga Canyon. The writing itself began back in 2020, after Price and her husband Jeremy Ivey took a road trip to South Carolina. From that came the motivation and inspiration needed to experiment more confidently musically and explore different approaches. The result is a successful blend of classic rock 'n' roll, pyschedelic country, rhythm 'n' blues and pop.

Says Price, "I feel this urge to always move forward and create something new in the process. Otherwise, you're always stuck in the same place. You have to expand your horizons, and I'm looking for things other than, say, playing in front of as many people as possible or getting a lot of awards. I'm just trying to find what my soul really needs". The album also features guests Sharon Van Etten, Lucius and Mike Campbell.
