Together with the album "A Date With Elvis" (RCA LPM-2011), "For LP Fans Only" is one of the young King of Rock'n'Roll's most important niche products. Since, due to Elvis' service obligations in the army, no new recordings could be made, the producers reached back into the tape box, unearthed some singles from the Sun Records days, mixed in a few early RCA songs and a number from the "Love Me Tender" soundtrack, and a new Elvis LP was ready. The album's enormous success with fans was not only due to the stylistic homogeneity of the youthful, taut songs: for many, the record was the only substitute for the highly coveted and elusive original singles "That's All Right", "Mystery Train" and "My Baby Left Me".
With good reason, the bits and bytes faction has since ignored the cover dedication and brought various reissues onto the market. This only underlines the widespread judgment that this album is one of Elvis' best and also one of the most important in rock'n'roll - especially, of course, in this vinyl edition.
