Edith Piaf * 19. Dezember 1915 – 11. Dezember 1963 Bürgerlich heißt sie Edith Giovanna Garcion und entstammt der Verbindung eines Akrobaten und einer Chansonsängerin. Schon mit 15 verdingt sich Edith als Straßensängerin. Von der Straße weg wird sie in ein elegantes Nachtlokal engagiert und hat seit 1937 ihre ersten Erfolge. Edith, zart gebaut und klein von Wuchs, besitzt eine voluminöse Stimme und große theatralische Darstellungskunst. Titel wie "Mon Légionnaire", "L'Accordioniste" (beide 1937) und "Ce Lui Que Mon Coeur A Choisi" (1938) bleiben über die Jahre in ihrem Repertoire. Bei der französischen Polydor nimmt sie ihre ersten Schallplatten auf. Aus vertragsrechtlichen Gründen dürfen diese allerdings nicht bei der Grammophon in Deutschland erscheinen. Zum klassischen Bestand zählen ihre Chansons "La Vie En Rose", "Milord" und "Padam... Padam".
