In 1956, Antonio (Nino) Aiello and Vinnie Drago, two school friends from the Bronx, New York, formed the vocal group “The Ebb-Tides.” They were joined by Tony Delesio and an older man named Rudy, who had previously sung with the Pexels. They rehearsed two songs written by Nino and Vinnie: “Franny Franny” and “Darling I Love Only You.” Their breakthrough came when they met a man named Murray Jacobs, who invited them to record at his studio. Before the group entered the studio to record their second single, “Puppy Love,” there was a change in personnel. Ralph Bracco replaced Rudy, and Tony was replaced by Tony “Bimbo” lmbimbo. This group recorded four or five records until 1960, when Tony Dibari replaced Ralph Bracco. Tony, known as “Slim,” had sung in Bimbo's old group, “The Treble-Chords,” which had become famous with “Teresa.” The group switched labels from ReCorte to Marco and within another year, in 1961, to the MADISON label. Now the group was nationally successful and covered a local West Coast hit by Little Caesar and The Romans, “Those Oldies but Goodies,” with newest member Tony Dibari as lead singer. The following year, the boys followed up with their hit single “Juke Box Saturday Night.” However, the group, now at the height of their career, saw their label go bankrupt. They had a few more releases on two other labels, but in 1964, the British Invasion drastically changed the music scene. All the members of the group had successful day jobs, and it was time to retire. About five years later, in 1970-71, they reformed for a rock and roll revival show, but after that they disappeared again, leaving behind their music for collectors to enjoy forever.
