On Stardust, Nelson delivered music in a slightly different style than what he was known for at this point in his career, but the genre-bending approach was remarkably good and is, in my opinion, Nelson's greatest musical achievement.

Stardust was released in 1978 and was Nelson's twenty-second studio album. It consisted of ten standards that included music from the folk, jazz and pop genres, making the album instantly marketable to an audience outside of his usual country music genre. Remarkably, Nelson's vocal ability showed that he could be mentioned in the same breath as Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles and Bing Crosby. However, if one compares Nelson's recordings with those of the greats of the time, an interesting dichotomy emerges, as Nelson interprets many of these songs at a higher level than his predecessors. Not least, he matches their brilliance, and while it is not uncommon, it is extremely rare for a music album to be so perfect that it has no equal. Well, “Stardust” is such an album.
