"It's the most personal album I've ever written and it's very scary to show such a raw, exposed and vulnerable side," says Tami Neilson about her new album Don't Be Afraid.

After two songs were finished and only six weeks left to write, Tami Neilson unexpectedly lost her father, the head of The Neilson Family Band, with whom Tami toured Canada as a young girl and performed with artists like Johnny Cash.
Her mother and brother encouraged her to finish the album in honor of her father.

Don't Be Afraid is more soul than country, as Tami listened to a lot of gospel during the time when her father died and found comfort in the album of legendary singer Mavis Staples.
The songs were recorded live again in Ben Edwards' New Zealand Sitting Room Studio.
