Liza Minnelli's long-lost live album, recorded in the heart of New York. When the Oscar, Emmy and Tony award winner (and future Grammy legend) took the stage at the legendary Carnegie Hall on September 4, 1979, the concert was already a highly anticipated event. It was to be the first of eleven consecutive shows through September 14 - the longest concert run in the Hall's history.

Not only that, but every show in the 5-story, 2,804-seat hall was sold out. (That record stood until 1987, when one artist played sold-out shows there for three weeks in a row. That artist? Liza Minnelli.) Liza had the foresight to record three nights of concerts; two years two years later, in 1981, she began selling the limited edition version at her live performances.

The Live at Carnegie Halldouble album captured Liza's electrifying, rousing evening from start to finish, including definitive versions of familiar showstoppers like John Kander and Fred Ebb's Cabaret, But the World Goes 'Round and Theme From New York, New York, as well as new versions of contemporary pop, pop and classic Broadway standards by such luminaries as George and Ira Gershwin, Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, Barry Manilow and Melissa Manchester.
However, because the album was not distributed at retail, it never reached a wide audience.... until now!

Sie tanzt hinreißend, singt bekannte, aber auch gewagte Chansons, ist ein einziger musikalischer Wirbelwind auf der Bühne, in Film und Fernsehen: Liza Minnelli.

Spätestens seit „Cabaret" ist sie auch in der Bundesrepublik zum Superstar geworden. Liza, deren Eltern die heute noch un-vergessene Judy Garland und der be-kannte Regisseur und Oscar-Preisträger Vincente Minnelli („Gigi", „Ein Amerikaner in Paris") sind. Liza besuchte Schulen in Beverly Hills, in der Schweiz und sam-melte während eines Jahres akademische Erfahrungen an der Pariser Sorbonne. Dieser Welt sagte sie bald adieu und ging auf Tournee: „Das Tagebuch der Anne Frank", „The Fantsticks", „Carnival", „The Pajama Game" machten sie bekannt.

Mit 19 kam dann der Durchbruch, ihre erste Broadway-Rolle in „Flora S., rote Gefahr". Das brachte ihr dann auch gleich, als jüngster Schauspielerin, die jemals diesen Preis erhielt, den „Antoninette Perry Tony Award" ein. Ihr Album „There Is A Time" erhielt von der Zeitschrift „HiFi Stereo Review" den Preis für die beste LP des Jahres, „Liza With a ,Z" und „The Singer" stürmten die Hitpara-den. Die Nationale Theatervereinigung der USA ernannte sie 1972 zum „Weib-lichen Star des Jahres", und im gleichen Jahr gab's den „Las Vegas Entertainment Award". 1973 kassierte sie 2 Oscars für-ihre Darstellung im Film „That's Enter-tainment".
