Die Schotten im Soft-Rockstil waren von 1970 bis 1973 die wohl erfolgreichste Popgruppe Europas. Im Juni 1970 nah-men sie in Rom die Platte „Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" auf und hatten bei uns im April 1971 ihren ersten Hit damit. 9 Hits schlossen sich bis1973 an: „Soley, Soley" (1971), „Sacramento", „Samson and Delilah" und „Bottom's up" (alle 1972) und „Yellow Boomerang" (1973) waren die erfolgreichsten.

Fast 50 Goldene Schallplatten kassierten Middle of the Road in dieser Zeit — doch plötzlich, wie der Erfolg über die Schotten hereinge-brochen war, so plötzlich war es mit der Herrlichkeit auch vorbei. Im April 1969 hatten sich Sängerin Sally Carr (geboren 28. 3.1950 in Glasgow), Schlagzeuger Ken Andrews (geboren 28. 8.1947 in Glasgow), Sologitarrist lan Lewis Camp-bell (geboren 15. 7.1948 in Glasgow) und sein Bruder Eric Lewis Campbell (geboren 17. 7.1950 in Glasgow) kennengelernt. Weil sie in Schottland für sich keine Chance sahen, gingen sie nach Italien und wurden dort in einem Club von ihrem zukünftigen Produzenten entdeckt. Seit Anfang 1974 spielt noch Gitarrist Neil Henderson (geboren 11. 2.1953 in Glas-gow) als fünfter Mann mit. Er übernahm es, die Songs zu komponieren und die Texte zu schreiben.

Middle of the Road haben sich jetzt etwas vom aktiven Mu-sikerleben zurückgezogen und in Glas-gow Geschäfte eröffnet.
