The Meteors Vs. The World was originally released as a double CD by Anagram Records in 1999 and split into two separate vinyl editions, Parts I and II, by Raucous Records in the same year. The double album is a collection of 17 songs composed by Paul Fenech, half a dozen live tracks from a headlining set at the Tenth Anniversary Big Rumble held at Vauxhall Holiday Park in Great Yarmouth, two tracks recorded live in Las Vegas, five alternative versions of previously released songs, and two bonus tracks.

The live material is clearly and distinctly recorded and captures The Meteors in their prime, with six tracks performed with the power of an assault force, while the studio material was recorded in the band's own high-tech studio, In Heaven. The Meteors' own songs are complemented by appropriately stripped-down cover versions such as “These Boots Were Made For Walking” and “Wild Thing.” In addition, the hidden cover songs from the original double CD edition are also included: on Part I, there is the band's version of “I Get Around” by the Beach Boys, and on Part II, they destroy Elvis Presley's “Rock-A-Hula Baby.”

The Meteors

The Meteors was founded in 1979 by guitarist and singer P. Paul Fenech, together with Nigel Lewis (bass, vocals) and Mark Robertson (drums), initially as ''Legendary Raw Deal''. The Meteors are considered the 'inventors' of Psychobilly.
The metamorphosis of this style of music, from rockabilly to psychobilly, can easily be heard from Fenech's recordings with his band Legendary Raw Deal in 1979/80 and his early Meteors recordings until 1981. The very common abbreviation ''OTMAPP'' stands for ''Only The Meteors Are Pure Psychobilly''.
