The Meteors Vs. The World Parts I & II reissued on vinyl by Svart Records in October

The Meteors Vs. The Worldwas originally released as a double CD by Anagram Recordsin 1999 and split into two separate vinyl editions, Parts Iand II, by Raucous Records in the same year. The double album is a collection of 17 songs composed by Paul Fenech, half a dozen live tracks from a headlining set at the Tenth Anniversary Big Rumble held at Vauxhall Holiday Park in Great Yarmouth, two tracks recorded live in Las Vegas, five alternative versions of previously released songs, and two bonus tracks.

The live material is clearly and distinctly recorded and captures The Meteors in their prime, with six tracks performed with the power of an assault force, while the studio material was recorded in the band's own high-tech studio, In Heaven. The Meteors' own songs are complemented by appropriately stripped-down cover versions such as “These Boots Were Made For Walking” and “Wild Thing.” In addition, the hidden cover songs from the original double CD edition are also included: on Part I, there is the band's version of “I Get Around” by the Beach Boys, and on Part II, they destroy Elvis Presley's “Rock-A-Hula Baby.”

The Meteors

Die Band ‚The Meteors’ wurde 1979 von Gitarrist und Sänger P. Paul Fenech, zusammen mit Nigel Lewis (Bass, Gesang) und Mark Robertson (Drums), zunächst als ''Legendary Raw Deal'' gegründet. The Meteors gelten als ‚Erfinder’ des Psychobilly.

Die Metamorphose dieses Musikstils, vom Rockabilly zum Psychobilly, lässt sich leicht anhand der Aufnahmen Fenechs mit seiner Band Legendary Raw Deal 1979/80, sowie seiner frühen Meteors Aufnahmen bis 1981 heraushören. Die mit der Band in Zusammenhang stehende und sehr gebräuchliche Abkürzung ''OTMAPP'' steht für ''Only The Meteors Are Pure Psychobilly''.
