Al Martino,
a singer of the old school with an almost operatic tenor, was born Alfred Cini in Philadelphia on Oct. 7, 1927. A former bricklayer, he was encouraged to take up singing by Mario Lanza, and the melodramatic 'Here In My Heart' was a hit in 1952 on BBS. He has recorded with varying success for Capitol ever since. 'Spanish Eyes' (originally recorded in 1955) became a hit again in 1965 and once more in the seventies. His career took another upward turn following his association with the film 'The Godfather'.
