Bill Loose: Russ Meyer's Vixen - Soundtrack (LP, 45rpm, Colored Vinyl)
(Real Gone Music) 11 tracks, colored vinyl in purple.
What does the soundtrack to the first movie to receive an X-rating for its sex scenes sound like? Well, thanks to composer William "Bill" Loose, Vixen has found its perfect musical match! Loose is one of those cult composers whose works you hear much more often than you know about him. During World War II, he directed the U.S. Army Air Forces Orchestra in New York, and then was hired in the mid-1950s to be in charge of Capitol's extensive musical cue library (at one point, two dozen television shows used his cues)! From then on, he composed themes for shows like The Hollywood Squares and was musical director of The Doris Day Show. Beginning in the late '60s, however, Loose's career took a sharp left turn when he composed soundtracks for some of the most notorious B-movies of all time, including the outlaw biker movie The Rebel Rousers and Jack Hill's The Swinging Cheerleaders. But what gives his career true cult status is undoubtedly his work for sexploitation director Russ Meyer; Loose composed the soundtracks for many of Meyer's films, but unfortunately Vixen is only one of two released on LP. That's a shame, because it's a rollicking mix of rock 'n' roll, absurdist program music, bump-and-grind jazz, and old-fashioned, string-heavy widescreen vision. Pressed in kinky purple vinyl and mastered at 45 R.P.M. for maximum listening pleasure!
